The show, presented By Capital One, took place Dec. 13, 2019 in New York City.
The IFPI has named Taylor Swift the world’s best-selling recording artist of 2019 for a second time, following her first win in 2014.
Taylor Swift released her seventh studio album Lover in August last year, which debuted at number one in more than ten countries and reached three million album-equivalent sales worldwide by the end of its first week of release.
The album also catapulted her to the top of Pollstar’s Elite 100 Artists chart in the week after its release.
A month later, Swift announced a few select tour dates for 2020, mostly festivals, after being largely off the road in 2019.
The year before, in 2018, she ranked on number two on Pollstar‘s Year End Worldwide Ticket Sales chart with 2,888,922 tickets sold and $345 million grossed.
That year, Ed Sheeran led the ranking thanks to the “Divide” tour that broke all records.
Sheeran, who led the IFPI worldwide music sales ranking in 2017, takes second place this year, following the success of his album No. 6 Collaborations Project, which featured artists such as Stormzy, Cardi B, Camila Cabello and Khalid. The album reached number one in 19 countries while the lead single, “I Don’t Care” with Justin Bieber, reached number one in 26 countries.
Post Malone takes third place in this year’s IFPI chart, up from fourth position the previous year. Malone’s single “Sunflower” with Swae Lee remained a popular track across streaming services into 2019 and was followed in September by his third studio album, Hollywood’s Bleeding, which reached number one in countries including Australia, Canada, the U.K. and the U.S.
Post Malone is currently on his “Runaway Tour,” and the first box office reports have just come in, placing him on number one on this week’s Live75 chart.
The singer/rapper scored an average ticket count of 13,870 from five sold-out shows in four major North American markets to grab the top ranking. Sellouts at arenas in Chicago, Toronto, Montreal and two in the New York City area earned the “Runaway Tour” $8.7 million based on sold tickets totaling 69,351 during the early days of the 2020 trek in February.
