Garth Brooks To Play June 27 Concert To 300 Drive-Ins
–
Country superstar Garth Brooks is bringing a one-night drive-in concert event to 300 drive-in theatres across North America June 27, with tickets for the “social distance party” going on sale Friday for $100.
“This one guy came to me and said, ‘Hey, look, we can put 300 drive-in theaters together if you will create a concert solely for the drive-ins. We can have families jump in the car, get them out on Saturday night,” Brooks said on “Good Morning America” Thursday morning.
“They’re going to run it just like a regular concert, but this is going to be all over North America, one night only,” he continued. “We are excited because this is a reason to get out of the house, but at the same time you get to follow all the COVID rules from every individual state and you get to have fun and stay within the guidelines of social distancing … we’re calling it ‘social distancing partying.'”
Encore Live is the production company behind the event. While there is a full list of participating theatres, details on what the performance entails are scarce.
“Families need safe entertainment options that they can enjoy together this summer,” Encore Live CEO and founder Walter Kinzie said in a statement. “We’re excited to partner with Garth, who’s already done so much to help the entertainment industry during these tough times, to provide a truly unique and incredible concert that will do a whole lot of good for local businesses and communities.”
Brooks in recent years has broken attendance records at football stadiums, and in 2019 scaled things back a bit for the “Dive Bar” tour giving fans an up-close and personal experience — a rare treat from an artist known for playing the biggest stages and doing as many shows as it takes to meet demand.
The list of participating theatres and more information on the June 27 drive-in show can be found on Encore Live’s website, which encourages Team Garth to reach out directly to their local drive-ins to host the show.
