Justice Comes Alive features Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band, Umphrey’s McGee and more.

Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band, Umphrey’s McGee, and Christone “Kingfish” Ingram are among the more than 50 artists who will perform on the Justice Comes Alive livestream on June 28.

Billed as “a virtual festival for equality” and presented in partnership with the PLUS1 For Black Lives Fund, the event will bring together dozens of buzzy artists from the jam, rock, blues and folk worlds to raise money for participating artists and organizations including the Equal Justice Initiative, Impact Justice and The Bail Project. Voter engagement organization HeadCount has also signed on as a partner.

Justice Comes Alive will stream via nugs.tv and additionally feature Antibalas, Bandemic (John Scofield, John Medeski, Billy Martin, Jesse Murphy), Dumpstaphunk, Eric Krasno, G. Love, Galactic, George Porter Jr., Lettuce, Marco Benevento, Moon Taxi, Turkuaz and others, as well as conversations with the likes of Oteil Burbridge and Gary Bartz.

The livestream will include socially distance studio sessions, remote video collaborations and audience-less sets at proper venues.

Justice Comes Alive’s organizers also spearheaded the similar Quarantine Comes Alive, which raised more than $170,000 on May 30, and organized popular physical events Denver Comes Alive and Brooklyn Comes Alive, the latter of which was postponed from its late March date to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“I felt a responsibility to use our resources and platform once more to create an experience where people can enjoy music while helping those in need and educating themselves on the current issues facing our society today with the help of the Black musicians who make up this beautiful community,” said Kunj Shah, president and founder of Live for Live Music and producer of Justice Comes Alive, in a statement. “Quarantine has also taught me that the power of music is too potent for it to be wasted on something as simple as profit margins. Because of that, I’ve also pledged that all shows I produce moving forward will benefit a cause dear to our hearts in some way. We hope this event helps Justice, finally, Come Alive.”
