Live Industry Returns To Red Alert With Video Campaign
As the live industry desperately waits for federal aid, businesses around the country are starting another Red Alert Call To Action today, Nov. 10, with a video campaign organized by #WeMakeEvents – North America.
The video asserts that “without help now, the live event industry will never restart” and urges congress to pass the RESTART Act, Extend PUA and Extend PPP.
The campaign is the latest cry for relief from the federal government, which has been unable to agree on any substantial relief package for struggling businesses and families since the aid from the CARES Act began expiring in August.
Sources tell Pollstar there is now hope in Washington that with the election over, the process of moving toward a relief bill can resume with swiftness. The two main bills that have garnered substantial support from the live industry are the Save Our Stages Act and the RESTART Act which, combined, would give venues and live companies of all sizes the ability to navigate this period where they are operating without any source of revenue.
#WeMakeEvents was behind the Red Alert Day Of Action in September that saw more than 2,500 live event venues and business illuminating their buildings in red, signifying the industry was on “red alert” and in desperate need of aid.
NIVA’s Adam Hartke recently spoke with Pollstar about NIVA’s lobbying efforts and said that small forms of aid, like extending PPP, would not be enough to save struggling independent venues across the country.
