Old Town Obby? Lil Nas X Bringing In-Game Concert Experience To Roblox

“Hey everybody! It’s me, Lil Nas X,” reads an announcement the Roblox website. “Join me for a one-of-a-kind, immersive concert experience built exclusively on Roblox. Get ready for a crazy show with some of my favorite songs, the debut performance of my new single, and more.” 

The action gets started with a pre-show on Friday, Nov. 13, with a Q&A session, behind-the-scenes footage and a scavenger hunt, followed by Saturday’s Main Event, starting at 1 p.m. PST.  Limited-edition in-game swag is available.

The free-to-play Roblox online platform allows users to program and create games for other users, with its own currency (“Robux”) and seemingly limitless options. The game has become a hit for the younger set, with parental controls limiting interaction and chatting between users and educational opportunities through the game’s programming abilities.  It sees more than 164 million monthly active users, with half of those  under the age of 16 in the United States.  

The platform and artist, whose song resonated across the world with school-age children and parents alike, seem to be a fit for musicians looking to reach a younger demographic than the teen-and-over Fortnite, which has hosted events by Travis Scott, Dominic Fike, Marshmello and others.

“Stay tuned for even more accessories leading up to the day of the concert on November 14,” Lil Nas X’s message continues.  “It’s gonna be the greatest day.”
