Sally Grossman, Wife of Bob Dylan Manager Albert Grossman And On Cover Of ‘Bringing It All Back Home,’ Dies At 81

Sally Grossman, known as wife of famous artist manager Albert Grossman and who appeared on the famous album cover of Bob Dylan’s 1965 LP Bringing It All Back Home, has passed at age 81, with family telling media she died at her home in Woodstock, N.Y. last week.

Sally and Albert Grossman were formative in the careers of Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin,  Peter Paul And Mary, The Band, and others, with Sally largely handling Albert’s business affairs, including Bearsville studio and Bearsville Records, after Albert Grossman suffered a fatal heart attack in 1986.
One of the Grossmans’ accomplishments is the Bearsville Center, created in the ’60s in the Town of Woodstock as a place where musicians could live, work and play, 15 acres serving as a hangout for some of the most influential musicians of the time and often referred to as home to the spirit of Woodstock.
Bearsville Center’s Lizzie Vann, who recently purchased and renovated the former Albert Grossman Bearsville complex,  which more recently includes the active concert venue The Bearsville Theater, remembers Sally Grossman fondly in comments shared with Pollstar following the news of Grossman’s passing.
“Sally cut an indelible figure as the young woman on the cover of Bob Dylan’s 1965 album Bringing it All Back Home. That iconic image loomed large in Sally’s legend and her dynamic persona was a force to be dealt with as the dutiful steward to the Grossman estate after Albert’s untimely passing in 1986. 
“Sally completed the legendary Bearsville Theater project just three years after his passing. She was our neighbor across Tinker street and we’re honored to have Albert interred on the Bearsville Center’s property.  Albert famously helmed Bearsville Records, managed Bob Dylan, The Band, Peter Paul & Mary and Todd Rundgren but it was Sally who took charge of all of the unfinished business after his passing. We at Bearsville Center are grateful for Sally’s passing of the torch and allowing the Bearsville Theater, Utopia Soundstage Studios and the complex to live on in honor of Sally and Albert Grossman.”
