Scarypoolparty Returns To The Road With Acoustic Tour: Exclusive

Scarypoolparty – aka Alejandro Aranda – is hitting nine markets in Arizona, Texas, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and Colorado from June 4 to June 20.

Before the pandemic Scarypoolparty was touring with a full band, selling out 1,500-cap rooms, but this run will see him performing by his lonesome with just a guitar and a piano in smaller and reduced-capacity venues. But after exploding onto the national stage after finishing as the runner-up on the seventeenth season of “American Idol,” his first tour was similarly entirely acoustic, and the artist told Pollstar he is excited to return to his roots – and just to be on the road in general. 

“It’s going be refreshing. For every musician and artist I know playing live is such a vital thing,” Scarypoolparty said. “Hopefully we can get back to full capacity soon, but for right now, just being able to play live is amazing.”

The entire tour is expected to be very low-key as they aren’t bringing much of a crew at all – Aranda isn’t even bringing a guitar tech, as he expects to just handle the maintenance of his guitars himself. Shows will be held at reduced capacity and Scarypoolparty said local venues will be complying with appropriate COVID protocols. While he will surely be dipping into his back catalogue for the sets, he will be promoting music from his new EP Los Angeles, which comes out tomorrow. The first single, “Universe,” is a departure from the instrumental style fans may have come to expect from Aranda, but he said he has used the last year to reexamine his creative process.

“During lockdown, it made me think in a different way in terms of how I write music, very much expanding what genres I try to make. With this EP, it’s definitely a different sound. The instrumentation I like to do will definitely be there, but now the way I put out music, it’s such a journey. I kind of want to keep that within whatever music I’m putting out.”

Scarypoolparty has definitely kept busy during the pandemic, not only writing music for his new EP, but also performing a series of livestreams from The Wiltern to raise funds for Crew Nation last year. He said, while those livestreams were an amazing experience, it was a different kind of performance from playing in front of a live audience, and he is very much looking forward to exchanging energy with real fans in a face-to-face setting.

Scarypoolparty was featured as a Hotstar in 2019, prior to the release of his debut album, Exit Form. He acknowledges the last three years certainly have been a strange journey, but he is excited for the future.

“Being on national television [as an aspiring artist] was very strange, but it built my mindset to be more strong and to understand, for my own sake, what brings me happiness, which is to keep the art and the music as the main focus. So these past two years have built this foundation of writing music and playing live, going through these steps of starting to understand what it means to be an artist. It’s been an amazing journey of meeting great people and experiencing things, playing live, being with a band, going on tour. Even right now, learning how to be patient and understanding that the music and the art is still the main focus. With COVID happening, I’m really learning how to adapt and maintain a positive mindset through making music.

“I think I would still be putting music out even if I wasn’t going tour, or if I didn’t do ‘American Idol.’ I would still be trying to put music out. It’s my way of expressing where I’m at mentally. It’s pretty insane now, in a good way, how many artists and bands are putting out so much amazing music. It’s kind of hard not to be inspired. I’m inspired by so many artists and bands right now, there’s a fire in everyone’s soul to put music out. And I think that’s great, because we need music.”
