AJR Announces Dates For 2022 Trek ‘The OK Orchestra Tour’
– AJR
AJR fans will be “way less sad” now that the pop trio has unveiled the routing for the band’s “OK Orchestra Tour.” The 2022 trek features 27 shows, kicking off April 28 in Dallas at the Toyota Music Factory.
The band – which is named after the first initials of the multi-instrumentalists Met brothers Adam, Jack and Ryan – is supporting its fourth studio album, OK ORCHESTRA, which was released in March. The album hit No. 10 on the Billboard 200 and debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative and Rock Albums charts, marking their second consecutive album to debut at the top spot on the charts.
AJR’s current single, “Way Less Sad,” reached the top 10 at Alternative radio and just cracked the top 30 at Top 40 radio and top 20 at Adult Pop. The band will perform the song – which has racked up more than 25 million streams worldwide – on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” April 14. The song is also featured in a new ESPN Sunday Night Baseball spot as part of the band’s partnership with the network and Major League Baseball.
Although the pandemic forced AJR to cancel two tours in 2020, the band still made the most of the year with the release of its first top 10 song, “Bang!” The popular tune earned the trio high-profile appearances, with performances on the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and NBC’s New Year’s Eve special just prior to the ball dropping. Other highlights from 2020 include a sold-out drive-in show at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia Aug. 19 and a virtual concert called “One Spectacular Night” at the end of December that agent Peter Schwartz of WME told Pollstar “was a huge success.”
The 2022 “OK Orchestra Tour” includes stops at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Washington, D.C.; The Xfinity Center in Boston; DTE Energy Music Theater in Detroit; Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville; White River Amphitheater in Seattle; and Concord Pavilion in San Francisco.
Tickets for the Live Nation-produced tour go on sale Friday, April 16th at 10 a.m. local time at AJRbrothers.com/events.
Along with crafting catchy tunes, the band is passionate about being good stewards for the environment. Adam is a United Nations Development Programme Advocate and the executive director of his nonprofit, Sustainable Partners Inc., (SPI), which “works with companies and creators to forge partnerships around sustainability.”
“Even before we get out on the road, we want to do things that are environmentally sustainable,” the bassist told People magazine in an interview last year. “We off set our carbon emissions for when we fly for every show that we do. We don’t use single-use plastic for all of our catering. And we also try and pick companies to work with that do good for the environment, like Delta offsets all of their flights. Chipotle uses local farmers for all of their restaurants. It’s about making those kind of small choices that will have a larger impact.”
AJR’s last tour featured a partnership with SPI and Ticketmaster for a “Time For Change” campaign that generated the planting of 100,000 trees.
Reports submitted to Pollstar‘s Boxoffice for AJR include a Jan. 20, 2020, show at The Anthem in Washington, D.C., that sold 6,000 tickets and grossed $213,099. Check out the 2022 schedule below.
