Eagles Add Dates To ‘Hotel California’ Tour, Relaunching At Madison Square Garden
Ron Koch – Eagles
The Eagles have added six dates to the front of its “Hotel California” tour, which will now launch with two shows Aug. 22 and 24 at New York’s Madison Square Garden. Dates have also been added at Boston’s TD Garden (Aug. 27-28) and Washington, D.C.’s Capital One Arena (Aug. 31, Sept. 1).
Produced by Live Nation, the dates extend a pandemic-interrupted tour that began in 2019. As with the rest of the tour, the new shows will include a “Hotel California” set accompanied by an orchestra and choir followed by an additional “greatest hits” set. Tickets go on sale June 18 via Ticketmaster. A presale for American Express card members begins June 14 at 10 a.m. local time through June 17 at 10 p.m.
Hotel California is the third best-selling U.S. album in history, certified 26-times Platinum by the RIAA. After its release in 1976, it topped the charts and won two GRAMMY Awards for “New Kid in Town” and “Hotel California.” Several of the songs from the album have never been performed since the original “Hotel California” tour. The band’s Their Greatest Hits 1971-1977 is the best-selling U.S. album in history, with the RIAA certifying the collection at 38-times Platinum.
The Eagles first performed Hotel California during a three-night stand at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas in September, 2019, in sort of a “dry run” before the “Hotel California” tour was announced. The Vegas run’s average gross of $6.2 million is more of a stadium number and marks the highest ever arena tally on Pollstar’s LIVE75 chart.
Over the course of three nights, (Sept. 27-28 and Oct. 5), the band generated a staggering $18.6 million performing before 37,578 enthralled fans who paid between $179-$1,500 for the privilege of seeing an epic three-hour-and-20-minute show.
The tour began in earnest, however briefly, Feb. 7, 2020 at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena and made additional stops at Madison Square Garden and American Airlines Center in Dallas before coming to a halt after a March 6-7 run at Toyota Center in Houston. After a couple of rounds of rescheduling, the tour’s return visit to MSG marks the resumption of what will surely be one of the top-selling arena tours in 2021.
