The festival will definitely return in 2021, now that it’s been awarded Gateway Event status by the Scottish government.

TRNSMT Festivals in Glasgow, Scotland, has been selected as a so-called Gateway Event, which is supposed to give the authorities some insights into running large-scale gatherings during coronavirus times.

The festival, which is now sponsored by online car broker Cinch, will welcome Courteeners, Liam Gallagher, The Chemical Brothers, Sam Fender, Little Simz, Griff, Dermot Kennedy, Joesef, and many more at Glasgow Green in the city center, Sept. 10-12.
Festival promoter DF Concerts had been confident to go ahead, after the Scottish government had announced Aug. 9 as target date for lifting most remaining coronavirus restrictions on social gatherings. Now that the festival has been given the status of a Gateway Event, where organizers are working with the Scottish Government and Glasgow City Council to deliver the event, it is certain that it will go ahead.
The Gateway Events are the Scottish equivalent to England’s Event Research Programme, where the coronavirus spread was monitored across a diverse range of event genres and capacities.
DF Concerts expects to host a full-capacity crowd of up to 50,000 people per day at Glasgow Green. The entry requirements are currently being worked out with the local authorities and will be communicated in due course.
Geoff Ellis, chief executive at TRNSMT, commented, “I’m delighted to confirm that cinch presents TRNSMT has been given approval to take place this year due to its status as a Gateway Event, with permission to host up to 50,000 fans per day over the weekend of Sept. 10-12. We’re looking forward to working in partnership with the Scottish Government and Glasgow City Council in delivering the festival.”
The Aug. 9 target date also saw the reopening of nightclubs across the country. According to a Scotsman report, “chants and screams were heard across cities in the country as nightclubs opened their doors” on midnight on Monday.
The Scottish Government recently confirmed that face coverings can be removed for dancing, eating or drinking inside the club. “Face coverings are required when customers enter and exit the club, however, and to go to the toilet or walk to the bar,” the report states.
There’s reportedly still debates around rules that will apply to “stand-up kissing” going forward. As of yet, there’s no proof of vaccination or negative test required to enter the clubs.
