Deal With It: Taylor Tomlinson Brings The Funny For A Cross Country Trek

Rising comedic star Taylor Tomlinson is taking her “Deal With It” tour to 29 cities, launching Sept. 16-17 at the Pantages Theatre in MInneapolis and winding down with two shows Dec. 18 at Meymandi Concert Hall in Raleigh, N.C.

Tomlinson was on a roll with her first hourlong Netflix special, “Quarter-Life Crisis,” debuting in March 2020, just in time for the pandemic to put a stop to any tour plans behind it. The special went on to earn critical praise with the Washington Post caller her “your favorite quarantine-watch.” 

With shows continuing to be added, Tomlinson’s “Deal With It” tour has already booked multiple shows in Minneapolis, Pittsburgh, Austin, Texas; Boston and Raleigh, N.C. 

Tickets for the newly added shows are on sale now. 

Tomlinson shares what fans can expect with the new tour. “This hour is definitely darker and more personal – ‘Quarter Life Crisis’ was about being frustrated with where you’re at in life and this new material is about taking a hard look at who you are and how you got that way.” 

 

Tomlinson spent much of 2019 filling clubs across the country on her own headlining tour and in 2020 despite the COVID-19 pandemic continued to grow her fan base with the seven-city, 19 show “The Codependent Tour,” her first co-headlining tour with fellow comedian Whitney Cummings. The socially distanced, outdoor performances kicked off in Philadelphia with five shows and that initial success led to the addition of 14 more shows in six different cities.

Represented by comedy supermanager Judi Marmel, co-founder and president of Levity Live, Tomlinson told Pollstar in March that Marmel and her team helped build her budding career and made it possible to achieve the goals she wanted, even when it could have easily been derailed by the pandemic. 

“Judi, being the person she is and the sort of visionary she is, sees the bigger picture and believes in you so much and pushes you to believe in yourself and also helps you get to places you didn’t know you could get to at all. Working with Judi is the best thing I’ve ever done.”

And the next step for Tomlinson is another example, for Marmel, of opportunity coming to fruition.

“What started as a TV show idea starring Whitney Cummings and Taylor Tomlinson (which eventually was sold to Hulu) blossomed into the co-headlining ‘Co-Dependent Tour,’” Marmel says. Tomlinson, in addition to joining the Comedy Improv Drive-In series, performed a run of socially distanced shows in Philadelphia in the fall. 

“I mean, we were basically playing almost the whole time. It was just different rooms and different situations,” Marmel says of the pivot. “And, you know, sometimes it’s on a rooftop and sometimes it’s under an underpass. Taylor played 21 shows at the Philadelphia Punch Line that ended up being an outdoor stage. It was underneath an underpass.”
