New Zealand Fests Snowboxx, Snow Machine Cancel 2021

New Zealand ski’n’beats festivals Snowboxx NZ and Snow Machine canceled as the once virus-free country battled 511 Delta cases in the end of August. Ski operators said the alpine regions had the best snowfalls in the season.

The inaugural Snowboxx NZ, the local version of the one in the French Alps, was not held last year and at this stage doesn’t seem likely to be rescheduled, said promoter Alex Turnbull.
To stage Sept. 7-14 at Cardrona and Treble Cone skifields, it sold out its 1,800 packages. Snowboxx NZ is a joint effort by Snowboxx Europe and NZ’s Rhythm & Alps.
Snow Machine (Sept. 30 to Oct. 2) on Coronet Peak in Queenstown was rescheduled to 2022. Much of the bill was Australian acts including The Avalanches and Flight Facilities, while most of the 5,000 tickets had been snapped up by Aussies.  They were to bring NZ $10 million ($7 million) in tourism dollars.
