The presales for two major international festivals, Rock In Rio in Brazil, and Areal Sound in Spain, show that there’s a demographic of people who cannot wait to get back out there and celebrate together.
The promoters of Rock In Rio, which got acquired by Live Nation in 2018, said the event broke a pre-sale record by selling 200,000 tickets in just over one hour with less than 10% of the lineup announced.
800,000 unique users had registered for the Sept. 21 pre-sale in total, demonstrating “the fans’ anxiety for the return of live entertainment,” according to a promoter statement.
Rock In Rio, welcomes some 700,000 fans in total each year to the City of Rock in Rio de Janeiro. Next year’s edition takes place Sept. 2-11. The confirmed lineup includes Iron Maiden, Post Malone, Marshmello, Jason Derulo, Justin Bieber, Demi Lovato and Dua Lipa.
The record sales reflect “the importance of holding the festival after the trying time in which we live,” according to Rock in Rio founder and president Roberto Medina.
“At this moment, a feeling of hope for better days takes hold of Brazilians. We are following the festival’s fans and we know that [their excitement is] at [an all time high. The success of the pre-sale only shows that we all want to be reunited in the magical atmosphere of the City of Rock, knowing it will be a moment of great joy.”
Medina added, the public could “rest assured that we are taking care of every detail so that it is the biggest and best edition ever held in the entire history of the festival.”
