While fans wait for Darius Rucker to put the finishing touches on his new album, the Grand Ole Opry member and three-time Grammy Award winner has announced dates for an intimate theatre tour.
The 12-date outing begins Feb. 17 at The Met in Philadelphia and includes gigs at classic venues including the Beacon Theatre in New York, The Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis, the Chicago Theatre and New Orleans’s Saenger Theatre.
“It’s been a dream of mine for a while to bring our show to these beautiful theaters,” said Rucker, who first made his name as the frontman of Hootie & The Blowfish.
“Some of my favorite venue memories over the years are at places like the Apollo in New York or the Royal Albert Hall in London, as it’s just a different experience when you’re that close. With Hootie, we went straight from playing dive bars to arenas, so there are still a lot of theatres I’ve never had the opportunity to play. I’ll just say that this tour will have a lot of firsts, even for me.”
A Citi card member presale starts Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 12 p.m. local time, followed by the general onsale for most dates Nov. 5 at 10 a.m. CT.
Rucker is gearing up to release the follow-up to 2017’s solo album, When Was The Last Time. The LP will include his current single, “My Masterpiece,” which he will perform Nov. 5 on ABC’s “Good Morning America.” He wrote the tune with Josh Osborne, J.T. Harding and Ross Copperman, who he also teamed up with to pen his recent No. 1 hit “Beers And Sunshine.”
“One of the most common questions I got asked last year was if I had picked up a new hobby during quarantine,” Rucker said in a statement. “I always answered that I was trying to learn piano, and someone asked if I was any good yet. J.T. Harding heard my response in that interview – ‘I can’t play piano like Ray Charles’ – and knew we had to write a song around that line.”
Box office reports submitted to Pollstar for Rucker include an Aug. 29 show with Tyler Booth at Constellation Brands – Marvin Sands PAC (CMAC) in Canandaigua, N.Y., that sold 4,602 tickets and grossed $209,992.
