Tame Impala performs at Las Vegas’ Life Is Beautiful Festival on Sept. 17, 2021.
Tame Impala revealed a brief North American tour Tuesday to accompany recently announced festival plays at Arizona’s Innings, Florida’s Okeechobee and Alabama’s Hangout.
After appearing at Innings on Feb. 27 and Okeechobee in early March, the Aussie psych-rock outfit will play several arenas throughout March, beginning with Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh, Pa., on March 7.
From there, the band heads to Canada for plays at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena (March 9) and Montreal’s Place Bell (March 10), before returning to the U.S. for East Coast plays including Brooklyn’s Barclays Center (March 14), Boston’s TD Garden (March 16) and a two-night run at ExploreAsheville.com Arena in Asheville, N.C., March 21-22.
The arena run concludes at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena (March 23), after which Tame Impala will make festival headlining appearances at New Orleans’ Buku Music + Art Project (March 25) and Hangout (May 22).
The band’s North American tour precedes previously announced tours of Europe, which includes headlining sets at both weeks of Barcelona’s Primavera Sound, and Oceania.
Tame Impala appeared on Pollstar’s cover in fall 2021, months after the coronavirus pandemic cut short the band’s first arena tour after just three shows. The second and third nights of that tour, a sold-out two-night run at the Forum in Inglewood, Calif., remain Tame Impala’s top-grossing box office report, grossing $1.82 million total.
“These shows were beyond expectations on the production level,” Forum general manager and senior vice president of live events Geni Lincoln told Pollstar. “What Tame Impala did to coordinate their music with the live production elements made it visually one of the greatest shows we have had the pleasure of hosting.”
This fall, the band picked up where it left off, notching three of the five highest-grossing box office reports of its career in September, including a sold-out gig at San Francisco’s Chase Center that grossed $1 million, Tame Impala’s highest single-night take ever. Tame Impala also headlined this year’s editions of Las Vegas’ Life Is Beautiful, Delaware’s Firefly and San Francisco’s Outside Lands.
