– The biggest stars in music, artists and execs alike, used to descend on Cannes each year to celebrate the worldwide music industry and do business.
Here’s Diana Ross arriving in style at the 1994 edition.

After 55 years of organizing Midem in Cannes, RX France – formerly Reed MIDEM – announced that it won’t continue the event, which used to be one of the premier music industry gatherings in the world.

“Due to the lasting pandemic and following a review of its activity, RX France has decided to no longer organize the Midem events,” the announcement states.
This includes the Midem brand in Africa and Latin America, as well as Midem Digital, the virtual edition that hosted the panels, keynotes and workshops usually found at the Palais des festivals in Cannes online for the past two years.
The physical return to Cannes was scheduled June 7-10, 2002, but those plans have been thwarted. According to Music Business Worldwide, Midem is gone for good.
However, RX France stated that the company is in “exclusive and advanced” talks with the city of Cannes, which may end up taking over the brand. A RX France spokesperson didn’t want to comment at press time.
“RX France wants to express its utmost gratitude to the global music community, all its partners and clients for the continuous support they have demonstrated over the years, and to its Midem team for its unwavering efforts, passion and enthusiasm,” the statement concludes.
