Sitting on the edge of the Rocky Mountains, Denver’s beauty is incomparable. At the base of the Rocky Mountains in Morrison, Colo., stands one of North America’s most stunning venues, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, which artists and fans travel to from around the world.

The mountain park that encompasses the open-air amphitheater was originally known as the “Garden of the Angels” in the 1870s and was designated a National Historic Landmark by the National Park Service and Department of the Interior in 2015. The amphitheater – which was named Pollstar’s Best Outdoor Venue so many times that the award was rechristened the Red Rocks Award – hosted many of the Denver area’s big-ticket performances in 2021. The venue’s highest-grossing single-night show was Jonas Brothers’ Sept. 5 gig, which grossed $1.38 million from 8,677 tickets sold. Its top-grossing multi-night events were Jimmy Buffett, who grossed $2.26 million from 17,157 tickets sold over two September shows, and The String Cheese Incident, which took in $1.97 million from 26,185 tickets sold over three July nights.

Outside of the historic venue, the Eagles played Denver’s highest-grossing arena event of all, grossing $5.91 million from 24,621 tickets sold across two nights at Ball Arena. Phish had the top-grossing stadium run – and the market’s top-grossing report – with $6.11 million grossed from 70,088 tickets sold across three nights at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park over Labor Day weekend.

Pop and rock were the best-selling genre in the Denver market, making up seven of its 10 highest-grossing box office reports. The genre carries quite a history in the city, as Led Zeppelin played its first-ever North American show there in 1968, alongside Vanilla Fudge and Spirit. Queen also made its North American debut in the city in 1974, when they opened for Mott the Hoople.

The city also boasts a number of intimate venues and theaters, including The Mission Ballroom, Paramount Theatre, Bellco Theatre, The Oriental Theater and The Roxy Theatre.
