There used to be male and female artists of the year at the BRITs, but it was decided to go with gender-neutral ones for 2022.
The 2022 BRIT Awards went down at London’s O2 arena yesterday, Feb. 8. Here are all winners, with full list including all nominees below.
Adele won three BRIT Awards including for Album of the Year. She has now won in that category three times, including for her previous two albums, 21 and 25, at the 2012 and 2016 BRIT Awards, respectively. It makes Adele the first solo artist to win the coveted Album of the Year Award at the BRITs three times.
She also took home the Song of the Year trophy for “Easy On Me,” the album’s first single, as well as the BRITs’ inaugural Artist of the Year award. There used to be male and female artists of the year at the BRITs, but it was decided to go with gender-neutral ones for 2022. Adele took a slight jab at the decision when she emphasized during her acceptance speech: “I understand why the name of this award has changed, but I really love being a woman, and being a female artist. I do, I’m really proud of us.”
Adele also performed live on the familiar BRITs stage, a stripped-back performance of “I Drink Wine,” one of the ballads from her newest album, 30, which went to number one in almost every country it got released in.
In international counterparts of these went to Billie Eilish (International Artist of the Year) and Olivia Rodrigo (International Song of the Year for “Good 4 U”, the biggest selling international single of the year in the UK). International Group went to Silk Sonic, the supergroup by Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak.

She also took home a trophy in the category Best New Artist.
Little Simz, who also performed live at the award show, won Best New Artist, Wolf Alice took home Best Group. The 2022 BRITs Rising Star shortlist, which identifies each year’s most promising future stars of British music, went to Holly Humberstone, who fought off the all-female competition of Bree Runway and Lola Young. Humberstone performed to her biggest audience yet with a rendition of her new single ‘London is Lonely’, and was introduced on stage by last year’s Rising Star recipient, Griff.
The BRIT Awards 2022 saw a number of changes made to awards categories. The first ever Songwriter of the Year award went to Ed Sheeran, who also performed twice on the night. He was joined by Bring Me The Horizon to open the show with a theatrical performance of “Bad Habits,” the first single from his current album =, and performed “The Joker and The Queen” later in the show.
As usual the live music contributions came from legends and contemporary artists alike, often performed as medleys or in collaborations: Anne-Marie and KSI along with Digital Farm Animals treated the packed O2 audience to a three song set, Liam Gallagher flew in by helicopter to perform his new single “Everything’s Electric.”

He also won the BRIT Award for Best Hip Hop/Grime/Rap Act.
Sam Fender won Alternative/Rock Act, and later in the show played his UK top 10 single “Seventeen Going Under.” British rapper Dave was presented with the award for Hip Hop/Grime/Rap Act by Arsenal legends Ian Wright and Bukayo Saka, and closed the ceremony with a triumphant performance of ‘In The Fire’,” where he was joined by fellow rappers Ghetts, Giggs, Fredo, Konyikeh and Meekz.
The BRITs also launched four new genre awards this year, where fans determine the overall winner by public vote cast via TikTok – a first for both the app and the BRITs. Dua Lipa, who picked up two awards at the BRIT Awards 2021, won Pop/R&B Act. Becky Hill was awarded Dance Act, cashing in on her first BRITs nomination ever.
Presenters on the night included Courtney Cox and Johnny McDaid, Brian Cox, Vicky McClure, Jodie Whittaker, Mo Farah, Tom Daley and Ronnie Wood.
