They join previously announced Dua Lipa, Tyler, The Creator, HAIM und St. Vincent, bringing the number of confirmed artists for Roskilde 2022 up to 134. After two years of international travel restrictions making such a lineup impossible, promoters are confident they’ll be able to welcome acts from 31 countries, including Cuban funk star Cimafunk, Brooklyn-based Pakistani vocalist and neo-classical composer Arooj Aftab, Brazilian star guitarist Kiko Dinucci, and Fatoumata Diawara from Mali, who’ll bring her mixture of pop and blue to the Roskilde stage.
It will mark the 50th anniversary of Denmark’s biggest festival, which usually welcomes 130,000 visitors to Roskilde, located 30 kilometers west of Copenhagen on the Danish island of Zealand. Full festival tickets are sold out, there are still day-tickets available for Wednesday (June 29), Thursday (June 30) and Saturday (July 2).
Roskilde’s program director Anders Wahren commented, “We have done everything we can to bring many trends and tendencies from around the globe into this year’s lineup. We need, so to speak, to bring the world back together after the pandemic, and music plays a crucial role in this matter. The global perspective is also about mirroring the cultural and political agendas on subjects like anti-racism, LGBTQ+ rights and freedom of speech, which many artists take with them from all over the world and send from the stage to the audience.”
The next wave of acts, especially up-and-coming talent, will be announced in spring “It has been difficult for the younger artists to position themselves in this corona era. Therefore, we will use this spring to go out and experience the very latest trends on national music scenes so that even more of the new and debuting artists in 2022 can find their way to this year’s festival,” said Wahren.
