Industry Vet Keith Hagan Launches Skylark Artist Management
–
Longtime industry vet Keith Hagan has opened Skylark Artist Management after many years of marketing and promoting artists including Afghan Whigs, Robert Finley, and Kenny Rogers with his company SKH Music. More recently, he helped launch Brooklyn Made and worked full-time on Joe Biden’s successful presidential campaign.
Skylark Artist Management will focus on management, marketing and publicity and launches with a roster that includes Afghan Whigs, Robert Finley, Beth Orton, Cymande, Lily & Madeleine, The Whitmore Sisters and The Mastersons.
Skylark is getting off to a great start, with the documentary film “Getting It Back: The Story of Cymande” debuting at South By Southwest and telling the story of the UK collective that is making its return after 40 years, as well as news that Beth Orton will join Alanis Morissette on the extension of the “Jagged Little Pill” tour.
“[Cymande] is on the cusp of some amazing things finally happening for this band,“ Hagen says of the group that combined jazz, funk, soul and Caribbean grooves to form a unique sound that came together in South London in the early ‘70s with a common love of rhythms and a message of peace.
“I am really happy with how the roster is already coming together this early because it’s a lot of people I’ve worked with for years and some new additions that I’m super excited about,” Hagan says.
He notes that during the pandemic, he was active in different areas that were not necessarily management-related. But by the end of 2021, he says, “I felt the time was finally right to strike out on my own fully. I have an excellent support team around me here at Skylark, and I’m very excited for what the future holds.
“I pride myself on being a strategist first with the artists I work with,” Hagan adds. “I’m in a unique position to guide my artists’ careers from many different vantage points due to my long and varied experience in the music business. It feels good to be starting this company with a ton of forward momentum by the artists we look after.”
Prior to co-founding SKH Music, Hagan served as the Vice President/General Manager at PFA Media, where he helped open the company in 2002. At PFA he worked with a wide range of artists on their media campaigns, including Paul McCartney, Aerosmith, Def Leppard, Paul Weller, and Stereophonics, among numerous others.
Hagan’s experience on the record label side is a long one. He served for nearly eight years as the VP of Publicity for Mammoth Records (a division of the Walt Disney Company). During his tenure at Mammoth, Hagan oversaw the publicity department and was responsible for creating and implementing the press campaigns for the entire roster.
