Comedians For Ukraine

English comedians John Thomson and Justin Moorhouse announce an Easter Comedy Eggstravaganza for Ukraine at the O2 Apollo in Manchester, April 18, to raise money for the Legacy of War Foundation, an international charity providing support to civilians affected by conflict.

“Justin and John quickly put the show together by asking their comedian pals to get involved and within an hour, flights had been changed and plans had dropped to be part of this incredible lineup,” according to a statement from promoter SJM Concerts.

A lineup that includes Tom Binns, Daliso Chaponda, Les Dennis, Nina Gilligan, Tez Ilyas, Jason Manford, Mick Miller, Kiri Pritchard-McLean, Ted Robbins, Adam Rowe, Steve Royle, Dave Spikey, Johnny Vegas, and the two initiators, of course.

Said Thomson, “I’m so chuffed that we’ve booked the likes of Jason Manford, Dave Spikey and Johnny Vegas. We’ve also got the brilliant Kiri Pritchard-McLean, who is making a big name for herself on Have I Got News For You and Live at the Apollo. We have also secured the legends that are Mick Miller, Ted Robbins and Les Dennis – that’s a boy band I’d like to see formed.”

Moorhouse added, “the Northwest comedy scene is incredible. We’ve managed to pick from the very best we’ve got, from Britain’s Got Talent finalists Daliso Chaponda and Steve Royle to Liverpool’s Adam Rowe, whose Have A Word podcast is smashing all sorts of records. Finishing off the bill are Blackburn’s Tez Ilyas from BBC’s Man Like Mobeen, the hilarious Nina Gilligan and Tom Binns, the man behind Ivan Brackenbury – these are just some wonderful comedians who are giving us their time.”

When the festival goes down at the Standon Lordship in Hertfordshire, England, July 21-24, more than 50% of artists will be female and non-binary.

Alongside main stage headliner Anne-Marie, Laundry Meadows second stage headliner Self Esteem, and electronic headliner Annie Mac, Standon Calling also confirmed Logic1000, Jamz Supernova, Elkka, India Jordan, Grove (DJ set), Tailor Jae, Ezra Furman, CMAT, Bessie Turner, Sugarbabes, Sigrid, Gabrielle, Kelly Lee Owens, Dry Cleaning, Enny, Billy Nomates, Nadia Rose, The Subways, Lucy Blue, Olivia Dean, Pongo, 24 Hour Garage Girls and more.

Alex Trenchard, founder and director of Standon Calling, said, “When we signed up to [the global Keychange initiative] back in 2018, we pledged that we would commit to ensuring 50/50 gender balance on our line up by 2022. At the time this felt like a huge challenge, but we’re delighted to say that we’re on track to exceed that figure with 54% of acts on our 2022 line up identifying as female or non-binary.

“Our lineups are stronger and more diverse than ever. We’re delighted to be leading the way amongst the industry, showing that gender balance in festivals in 2022 is both possible and a key component of curating an exciting line up.”

Other headliners this year include Loyle Carner, Madness, Primal Scream alongside the likes of Craig David Presents TS5, Sleaford Mods, Kojey Radical, Example, John Grant, The Cribs, Yard Act, Grandmaster Flash, Dick & Dom DJ Battle, Horrible Histories Live and others.
