Dead & Company Reveals 2022 Summer Tour
Dead & Company announced its annual summer trek Thursday, revealing an itinerary that will take the group, comprised of Grateful Dead founding members Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart alongside John Mayer, Oteil Burbridge and Jeff Chimenti, to amphitheaters and stadiums across the U.S. in June and July.
The band, which ranked No. 5 on Pollstar‘s year-end worldwide touring chart in 2021, will kick things off at Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium on June 11 and wrap with two nights at New York’s Citi Field, July 15-16.
Along the way, Dead & Company will play two-night stands at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, Calif.; Folsom Field in Boulder, Colo.; and Chicago’s Wrigley Field. Single-night stops on the tour include Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.; Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; and Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park.
Many of the venues on the tour are familiar territory for Dead & Company, which has grosed $344 million since it formed in fall 2015 following the Grateful Dead’s five Fare Thee Well concerts that summer.
Last year, Dead & Company grossed $3.9 million from one show at Citi Field, bringing its total at the venue to $22.3 million grossed across seven shows since 2016. The band raked in $7.4 million across two Wrigley Field shows in 2021, building on two-night stands at the Windy City stadium in 2017 and 2019 that brought in $6.4 million and $7.1 million, respectively.
In January, Dead & Company was forced to cancel both sold-out weekends of Playing In The Sand, its annual Mexican destination festival, after Mayer was sidelined by COVID-19 and Kreutzmann was forced to forego the gigs do to a non-COVID health issue. Playing In The Sand’s most recent iteration, held in January 2020, grossed $18.7 million.
Of course, Dead & Company’s members remain active outside of that band. Mayer is currently nearing the completion of a two-month arena tour that included two sold-out nights at New York’s Madison Square Garden that grossed $4.1 million. Weir, meanwhile, is on tour with his Wolf Bros. ensemble and will headline two nights at New York’s Radio City Music Hall this weekend.
