Wu-Tang Clan and Nas, two of the biggest icons in hip-hop, will be joining forces for a co-headlining tour this summer and fall. The “NY State Of Mind” tour, named after Nas’ 1994 track of the same name off his critically acclaimed debut album, Illmatic, will be hitting 25 cities.

Kicking off at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in St. Louis, Mo., on Aug. 30, the trek will make stops in Toronto; Charlotte, N.C.; Tampa, Fla.; Atlanta; Houston; Austin, Texas; Oakland, Calif., and more before wrapping up at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Oct. 4.
Nas released his 13th studio album, Kings Disease, in August 2020, with the sequel, Kings Disease II, arriving in August 2021. The rapper followed-up the release in December with his 15th studio album, Magic.

Wu-Tang Clan’s most recent album is 2015’s Once Upon a Time in Shaolin. Of course, most fans have never heard the LP. Only one copy of the 128-minute, 31-song double-album was sold at auction, with Wu-Tang Clan explaining in a statement on its website (via The Guardian): “The intrinsic value of music has been reduced to zero. Contemporary art is worth millions by virtue of its exclusivity … By adopting a 400 year old Renaissance-style approach to music, offering it as a commissioned commodity and allowing it to take a similar trajectory from creation to exhibition to sale … we hope to inspire and intensify urgent debates about the future of music.”

Former hedge fund manager Martin Shkreli bought the album for an undisclosed sum and after he was convicted for securities fraud his assets were seized, including Once Upon a Time in Shaolin. The album was purchased last year for $4 million by PleasrDAO, a collective of DeFi leaders, early NFT collectors and digital artists.

Box office reports submitted to Pollstar for Nas include a sold-out July 14, 2019, show at Filene Center At Wolf Trap in Vienna, Va., that sold 6,876 tickets and grossed $386,988. Reports for Wu-Tang Clan include an Oct. 7, 2019, show at Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater in Austin, Texas, that sold 2,174 tickets and grossed $257,460.

The general public onsale for the “NY State Of Mind” tour begins April 26 at 10 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster. Presales for select markets are ongoing now for American Express and Citi cardmembers.
