Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camp founder David Fishof has teamed up with Dayglo Presents Founder & CEO Peter Shapiro to put on the inaugural Relix Rock Camp in New York City Oct. 27-30. The event will give attendees the chance to live out their rockstar dreams and jam with the legendary Phil Lesh of Grateful Dead fame, along with John Scofield, whose resume includes time playing with Miles Davis, and Robert Randolph of Robert Randolph and the Family Band.

“I am super psyched to take what we do in our venues and expand it, for the first time, to a Musical Camp. Especially in partnership with David Fishof and his crew who have been doing this really well for a long time. We are definitely going to make some new magical memories together,” Shapiro said in a statement.

The event is produced by Fishof and Shapiro, whose history with Lesh goes way back. After all, in 2015 Shapiro produced “Fare Thee Well: Celebrating 50 Years of the Grateful Dead” at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., and Chicago’s Soldier Field. His long list of accomplishments also includes founding Virginia’s Lockn’ camping festival and owning/operating venues including Brooklyn Bowl, Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas, Brooklyn Bowl Nashville, Brooklyn Bowl Philadelphia and The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, N.Y. He also serves as the publisher of Relix magazine and was named chairman of youth voter engagement nonprofit HeadCount in 2019.

The camp will prepare attendees for jamming with Lesh, Scofield and Randolph with four full days of jamming, masterclasses, instructions and exclusive Q&As in a private studio. The event is topped off with a showcase performance in front of family, friends and jamband fans at The Cutting Room in New York. As the July 29 announcement from Rock Camp notes, all playing levels are welcome. Beginning Program, Junior Rocker Program and Ultimate Fan & Recording Package are also available.

Rockstar mentors at Relix Rock Camp will include Gary Hoey, Derek St. Holmes, Scott Sharrard (Little Feat / Gregg Allman Band), Alex Koford & Ross James (Terrapin Family Band), Tony Leone (Little Feat), Tash Neal (London Souls), Steve Leisman (Stella Blues Band), Lo Faber (God Street Wine), Leslie Mendelson, Michael Falzarano (Hot Tuna), Fuzz (Deep Banana Blackout) and more.

“I’m so excited to offer campers the opportunity to jam with the legendary original bass player of the Grateful Dead Phil Lesh and so many other incredible musicians,” Fishof said in a statement. “On top of it, to partner with Peter Shapiro and the entire Relix team for this camp is an honor. In the past we have had the pleasure of having Mickey Hart, Jeff Beck, Brian Wilson, Roger Daltrey, Bill Wyman, Alice Cooper and more at our Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camps, and we are excited to welcome these new first time artists joining us at this camp.”

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camp. Over the years performances with headliner rockstars have been held at amazing locations including Abbey Road Studios in London, Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood, Calif., and the Atlantic resort in The Bahamas.

“Rock Camp: The Movie,” released in 2021, tells stories of the effect the camp has had on attendees like Bill Meinhardt and his teenage son Blake, bringing the father and son closer together and giving Blake, who has autism, confidence. The film is directed by Doug Blush, who has worked on more than 100 documentaries including Oscar-winning film “20 Feet From Stardom.”
