Pino Sagliocco, chairman of Live Nation Spain, has been unveiled as the new Special Ambassador of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), joining a list of illustrious figures such as Giorgio Armani, Lionel Messi, and others.
UNWTO ambassadors campion tourism as “a pillar of sustainable development and an engine for creating opportunities,” according to the press release announcing the honors.
Sagliocco received the recognition from UNWTO secretary general Zurab Pololikashvili at a ceremony at the MOM Culinary Institute in Madrid, Spain. Zurab praised the veteran promoter for his work in promoting musicians around the world. Throughout his career, Sagliocco has worked with some of the world’s most relevant artists, including Prince, Elton John, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, and many more.
“His enthusiasm for music, also as a natural companion to travel, has helped make him a strong ally of UNWTO’s mission, as recognized in his new role as Special Ambassador,” according to the press release.
“Both music and tourism are powerful vehicles for bringing people together, for celebrating culture, for peace and understanding,” commented Secretary-General Pololikashvili, adding, “UNWTO is proud to welcome Pino Sagliocco to our growing family of Ambassadors and I look forward to working closely with him to grow sustainable tourism, both in Spain and around the world.”
Music tourism has been emerging as a major trend in the industry for years. It has gained even more importance now, as both the music and tourism industries have been among those economies hit hardest by the restrictions of the past two years.
