Maná Extends Kia Forum Residency With Two More Shows
Maná sure seems to be having fun playing its historic residency at Southern California’s Kia Forum. The acclaimed Latin rock band surprised fans over the weekend by welcoming Eagles’ Joe Walsh to the stage and today the group announced two more shows, stretching the residency into October.
The new dates are set for Oct. 21-22, marking Maná’s 11th and 12th performances at the fabulous Inglewood venue this year. Tickets go on sale July 22 at 10 a.m., starting at just $35 plus fees.
When news of the residency was first revealed in late 2021, the band booked four dates in March and April with a promise to continue performing at Kia Forum as long as fan demand continues. That initial announcement assured followers that no two shows would be the same, with a group statement proclaiming, “Get ready to see Maná like never before – special guests, unique set lists, and a kick-ass new production we put together special for these shows at the Forum.”
Delivering on that promise, Wash joined Maná on stage July 15 to perform his 1973 song “Rocky Mountain Way” and “Corazón Espinado,” the 2000 tune by Santana featuring Maná that was included on Santana’s 17th studio album and won “Record of the Year” and “Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group” at the Latin Grammy Awards.
“We grew up listening to iconic American bands and today we are so excited to present someone that we admire greatly and responsible for mega hits like ‘Rocky Mountain Way’ and ‘Life in the Fast Lane’ – Joe Walsh!” frontman Fher Olvera told the crowd on Friday. The quartet formed in Guadalajara, Mexico, in 1986, but considers Los Angeles a second home since first performing in the L.A. in 1993 with a show at the Hollywood Palace.
The residency represents the band’s only U.S. dates for 2022. Maná’s upcoming schedule includes an Aug. 5 show at Feria Nacional Potosina in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, as well as gigs in Colombia and Puerto Rico. The next Kia Forum gigs are scheduled Sept. 16-17.
Box office reports submitted to Pollstar for Maná include stops on 2019’s “Rayando el Sol Tour,” including its Nov. 30, 2019, show at Oakland Arena in Oakland, Calif., that sold 14,565 tickets and grossed more than $1.4 million.
Maná has received many accolades over the years including four GRAMMY Awards, nine Latin GRAMMY Awards, 25 Billboard Latin Music Awards, 15 Premio Lo Nuestro Awards. The band was also named the 2018 Latin Grammy Person of the Year Award and received the 2021 ICONO LATIN BILLBOARD Award.
The Kia Forum has also earned its share of awards including being honored at the 2021 Pollstar Awards as recipient of the Arena of the Decade award.
