Angel Olsen is following up the “The Wild Hearts” co-headline tour with a North American headline run planned for early 2023 in support of her beautiful new album, Big Time.

“Packin’ up the bus and headed back out this winter. Big Time Winter Edition. Playing songs off the new record. And dusting off some oldies,” Olsen posted on Twitter Tuesday. “Tickets on sale Friday. Presale starts tomorrow. Sign up for code at http://angelolsen.com.”

The 2023 tour will feature cities she has not yet played in support of Big Time, starting with a Jan. 20 show at The Eastern in Atlanta. Gigs on the routing include The Joy Theater in New Orleans, Mr. Small’s Theatre in Pittsburgh, and Baltimore Sound Stage. Olsen will be joined by Eric Rae supporting.

Olsen appeared on the cover of Pollstar in July shortly before “The Wild Hearts Tour” kicked off at the Wolf Trap Center for the Performing Arts in Vienna, Va., on July 21. The summer package tour featured Olsen, Sharon Van Etten and Julien Baker, with stops including Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, Austin’s Moody Amphitheater, Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre, Chicago’s The Salt Shed and Denver’s Sculpture Park.

“I’ve been home for two years. I’m ready to go play some shows – I’m ready to feel the reaction on people’s faces when I’m performing, like I need to know that my music is doing something,” Olsen told Pollstar. “And I think that’s why performing live is so important. You can release music and you can see social media as proof of something. But you don’t really know what people are experiencing. … There’s something about [playing live] that’s really fulfilling and really nurturing to the songwriting process, knowing that people are listening and that they’re affected and that you see it and you feel it from them.”

Big Time marks Olsen’s sixth studio album and her first collection of original material since 2019’s All Mirrors. The warm, country/folk album has been included on “Best Of” lists by Variety, The AV Club, Stereogum, Paste and more.

Earlier this month Olsen released a new version of the title track with Sturgill Simpson. The collaboration is a full-circle moment in a sense. As previously reported, Olsen wrote the first track of Big Time, the break-up tune “All The Good Times,” several years ago, around when she wrote the tracks that became All Mirrors and initially thought about offering it to Simpson to record. Olsen explained that she was glad she held onto the song because she “ended up writing a bunch of country-ish songs that fit the same genre as that one.”

Box office reports submitted to Pollstar for Olsen include the “Wild Hearts” tour stop at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium that sold 2,175 tickets and grossed $137,398.

Ahead of the 2023 tour, Olsen is playing Europe in September and October with support from Tomberlin. Check out the itinerary below, with the new dates bolded.
