THING Festival Returns To Pacific Northwest With Jungle, Modest Mouse, Father John Misty, Goose
– THING 2022
The “three-day multidisciplinary event” known as THING returns to Fort Worden in Port Townsend, Wash., Aug. 26-28 featuring Jungle, Modest Mouse, Father John Misty, Goose, Sparks, Freddie Gibbs, José González, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, Please Don’t Destroy and more.
Additional artists on the programming lineup include Mdou Moctar, Faye Webster, Yves Tumor, Wet Leg, Curtis Harding and more, with the event promising a “unique and eclectic offering of tightly curated programming including music, comedy, food, podcasts, visual arts and more.” The complete programming lineup will be announced in mid-March, and tickets to THING go on sale March 20 at 10 a.m.
The event returns after its 2019 debut, which featured Violent Femmes, Dr. Dog, Jeff Tweedy, Kurt Vile and more. The event is produced by Seattle Theatre Group (STG) and Adam Zacks, the organization’s chief programming officer.
“It continues to be an honor to present a slate of extraordinary talent, rich with new discoveries, in the magnificent setting of Fort Worden,” Zacks says in the announcement. “We aspire to offer something fresh to the festival landscape and create an environment where all are welcomed and represented.”
Zacks is also founder of the long-running Sasquatch! Festival that took place at the Gorge Amphitheater in George, Wash, which ran for 17 years before Zacks announced he would be stepping down in 2018 and the event would discontinue.
THING features two primary stages, including a decommissioned balloon hangar (McCurdy Pavilion), Littlefield Green and the Parade Grounds overlooking Puget Sound] along with the intimate Art Deco Wheeler Theatre.
A mix of camping, parking and housing accommodations will also be available for purchase as well as single-day passes. The event is open to all ages, with kids 12 and under free.
