The UK and Euro festival season is shaping up nicely, with more and more huge names added to various lineups this summer.

Roskilde 2023: Here’s To Another 50 Years

Roskilde in Denmark, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2022, has announced 34 new acts for this year’s edition, June 24–July 1, including Rosalía, Lil Nas X, Central Cee, Fever Ray, Glorilla, and J.I.D.

They join previously announced Blur, Burna Boy, Christine & The Queens, Japanese Breakfast, Rina Sawayama, and more.

For U.S. rappers Lil Nas X and Glorilla it’ll mark the first time performing in Denmark. Rosalía already performed at Roskilde in 2019. Roskilde Festival’s head of program, Anders Wahrén, said, “Rosalía’s reach and impact have grown exponentially since her last appearance at Roskilde Festival, and we now welcome one of the world’s biggest pop stars. Lil Nas X is a groundbreaking role model for minorities around the world. His show at the Orange Stage is poised to be a rainbow-colored party.”

‘Fun & Mischief’ At Truck Festival

Moving from mainland Europe to UK, next up is Truck Festival, which has announced a mammoth first wave of artists for its 2023 return to Hill Farm in Oxford, England, July 21-23.

Headliners Royal Blood, Alt-J, Two Door Cinema Club, and The Wombats lead a bill that also features Self Esteem, Beabadoobee, The Vaccines, Circa Waves, Maisie Peters, Dma’s, Pale Waves, Everything Everything, The Lathums, Kate Nash, We Are Scientists, Crawlers, The Beths, Squid, and many more.

Royal Blood said they had already been booked to perform at Truck in 2021, which got canceled for well-known reasons, and that they “can’t wait to finally head to Oxfordshire and headline Truck Festival this summer! Expect a party.”

Two Door Cinema Club performed at Truck Festival in 2009. In a statement, the band relived the experience: “We got led astray by Ash and then one of us (who shall not be named) threw up in a graveyard. Our next appearance was a few years ago to headline and it was amazing to see how much the festival had grown. We have such fond memories of both times and we’re excited to see what our third appearance has in store.”

Truck Festival turned 25 last year. Festival manager Lily Brimble commented, “We’re still buzzing, all these months later, at just how great it was to be back with our Truck Festival family in 2022 after so long away – and it’s why we’re even more excited to reveal this year’s lineup.

“Truck 2023 feels like a perfect coming-together of the bands and voices we love. It’s the Truck audience that makes the weekend so special, and we can’t wait to see everyone again this July! Get ready for some fun and mischief!”

The general sale for Truck Festival 2023 begins tomorrow, Feb. 3.

Mainstage Festivals have secured a very scenic festival site in Dhermi, Albania.

Albanian Festival Triple

UK company Mainstage Festivals, which specializes in overseas events, has launched a third festival on its Albanian site in Dhermi in partnership with LWE.

It is called SISO and is scheduled for Sept. 14-20. A lineup hasn’t been announced yet, but the brand partners that will curate the stages at the festival have. They include Swedish label Drumcode, Scottish imprint FLY, Ibiza’s party brand Amnesia presents Pyramid, and others.

While no names have been revealed, the musical genres will range from tech-house to disco to garage to melodic techno – “as long as it’s groovy, fun and fresh, it’ll be showcased,” according to a promoter statement.

SISO is the third event by Mainstage Festivals on the breathtakingly scenic Dhermi site. The others are Kala, June 31-July 7, and ION, Sept. 6-13, both of which have announced artists already.

Kala’s eclectic lineup ranges from Afrobeat band Dele Sosimi Afrobeat Orchestra, to the funk and disco of Harvey Sutherland, to a solid DJ front made up of Fabio & Grooverider, Channel One Sound System, Willikens & Ivkovic, and many more.

The latest additions to the Kala lineup include Nu Genea Live (live), Spirit Of Sundaze Ensemble (live), Daphni, Paranoid London, and Joy Orbison.

Last but not least, there’s ION, which launched last year, and returns for what promoters have described as “seven days of cutting-edge music.”

Confirmed for ION 2023 are, in alphabetical order, Adam Shelton, Alexia Glensy, Altin Boshnjaku, Andy Luff, B. Love, Ceylan Goksel, Craig Richards, Dan Shake, Dixon, DJ Boring, Elise, KT, Leo Lumezi, Madam X, Margaret Dygas, Pandaudio, Raresh, Saoirse, Shaqdi Sofia Kourtesis, Tim Reaper, Zag Erlat, and many more.

ION’s promotions and marketing director Jeff Gray commented, “We are incredibly excited to be returning to the shores of Dhërmi for the second edition of ION Festival in September. Building on the success of our inaugural year, we plan to build on our core values – Dance, Explore, Connect – through our continued dedication to a programme of high calibre underground DJs, many of whom play multiple extended sets, unique wellness and cultural experiences and integration with the budding local atmosphere of Dhërmi. It’s more than just a music festival, but a destination holiday experience unto itself. We cannot wait to return for seven more days in paradise, all soundtracked by the very best electronic music on offer.”

All of Mainstage’s events are described as more than just music festivals, but rather, as Gray put it, a “destination holiday experience.” There are all sorts of side activities, cultural experiences, and wellness treatments available, and tickets are sold in holiday packages including five-star accommodation, if chosen.

Tickets for SISO, Kala, and ION are on sale.
