88rising, Goldenvoice & The Bowery Presents Announce Inaugural NYC Edition Of Head In The Clouds
Head In The Clouds is continuing its expansion with details unveiled today for the first-ever New York edition, appropriately taking place during Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. Monday’s announcement was made by 88rising, the music and music company devoted to amplifying Asian talent and culture, along with promoter Goldenvoice and East Coast-based concert promoter The Bowery Presents.
The inaugural music festival takes place May 20-21 at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, New York City with a lineup that includes NIKI, Rich Brian, ITZY, Beabadoobee, DPR Live & DPR Ian, MILLI, XG, Masiwei, Atarashii Gakko!, P-Lo, Raveena, Warren Hue and many more.
The event represents a bit of a homecoming for 88rising, which was started in New York City by CEO/founder Sean Miyashiro in 2015.
When Head In The Clouds launched in 2018, it marked the first Asian-centric music festival in the United States.
Jared Blashinsky, VP Touring & Live at 88rising, spoke to Pollstar in September about how 88rising has grown and its recent success.
“One of the major highlights of my career thus far has to be 88rising’s presence at Coachella 2022,” Blashinsky says about the main stage takeover that included a surprise reunion of K-pop sensations 2NE1.
“The entire company came together to pull off this historic achievement – from our incredible content team capturing every second of rehearsals and artist interactions to our brilliant records team putting together an entire EP that dropped right at the end of our first set. I don’t think anyone at 88rising had any meaningful sleep from January until May.
“Another highlight has been growing our own Head in the Clouds Festival in Los Angeles from a one-day festival for 10,000 attendees in 2018 to now over 35,000 attendees per day only four years later. 88rising’s CEO Sean Miyashiro’s vision for the festival went from just an idea to the biggest (and in my opinion best) festival in LA County in a remarkably short amount of time.”
Last year also saw Head In The Clouds go international with 2022 festivals in Jakarta and Manila.
