Herbie Hancock, Kamasi Washington, Diana Krall to Perform at Newport Jazz Festival
The Newport Jazz Festival unveiled its lineup for this summer’s three-day event, which will be headlined by Herbie Hancock, Kamasi Washington, Diana Krall and Jon Batiste. The long-running festival will celebrate its 69th anniversary from Aug. 4-6 at Fort Adams State Park in Rhode Island and features dozens of artists with more to be announced.
Three-day passes are currently on sale via DICE and single-day and two-day tickets will be sold at a later date.
The acts performing on Friday, Aug. 4, include Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Washington, DJ Pee.Wee, Soulive, Domi and JD Beck, Immanuel Wilkins Quartet, Big Freedia, Alfa Mist, Butcher Brown, Endea Owens and The Cookout, Lakecia Benjamin and Phoenix and Julius Rodriguez.
The lineup on Saturday, Aug. 5, features Batiste, Thundercat, Big Gigantic Does Jazz, Christian McBride’s Jam Jawn, Charles Lloyd New Quartet, Arooj Aftab, Vijay Iyer, Shahzad Ismaily, Julian Lage, Superblue: Kurt Elling and Charlie Hunter with Nate Smith and Huntertones Horns, Orrin Evans Quintet, The War and Treaty, Keyon Harrold and James Brandon Lewis.
The final day, Aug. 6, will feature Hancock, Krall, Grammy Award-winner Samara Joy, Redman, Mehldau, McBride, Blade: A Moodswing Reunion, Scary Goldings featuring John Scofield, Cimafunk, Cautious Clay, Somi, Pedrito Martinez, Bill Charlap Trio and Charles McPherson Quintet.
