Landing at No. 7 on Pollstar’s Mid-Year Top 100 Worldwide Tours chart, Coldplay’s “Music Of The Spheres” tour keeps racking up ticket sales – while limiting its carbon footprint out on the road in an effort to combat climate change. Coldplay reported that, so far, they have managed to reduce their carbon emissions by 47 percent in comparison to its last world tour in 2016-17. At the start of June, the band issued a statement sharing a progress report of their initiative.

Coldplay’s begun running the entire show – including audio, lights, lasers and more – from an electric battery system that utilizes 100 percent renewable energy. As “Music Of The Spheres” carries on, Coldplay (booked by Wasserman Music and X-ray Touring) and its team aim to continue reducing their carbon footprint and promoting sustainability.

So far this year, Coldplay’s reported gross hits $65.4 million, with 11 stadium dates submitted to Pollstar’s Boxoffice. The band’s average gross per show comes in at $5.9 million, the second-highest out of all the artists listed on Pollstar’s Mid Year Top 100 Worldwide Tours. The band also has the No. 1 highest-grossing show on Pollstar’s Mid-Year Top 100 Concert Grosses (see page 30) with their six sold-out dates at Estádio Cícero Pompeu de Toledo in São Paulo, Brazil, with a whopping 439,651 tickets sold grossing a total of $40.1 million. For comparison, the second highest-grossing show listed is Elton John’s nine dates at The O2 in London, grossing $25.2 million.

“All of their dates have sold out for 2023 and already some into 2024, so we have a lot to look forward to,” Javor says. “I am personally more interested in show attendances over tour gross comparisons. Coldplay, while delivering a live phenomenon, insist on keeping ticket prices affordable so they can cater to all fans’ income capability.”

True to its word, Coldplay’s average ticket price is the lowest of all the Top 10 tours, with an average price of $88.86. The band’s  average ticket sales per show soar above even Taylor Swift’s, with 66,949 fans attending each show, according to reports submitted to Pollstar.

The annual POLLSTAR ranking of the concert industry’s top performing artists is tabulated for all Worldwide shows played between 11/17/22 to 5/17/23. All ticket sales figures are calculated in U.S. dollars and are based on reported information and extensive research by POLLSTAR.
