Robert Glasper Takes Over Blue Note Jazz Club For Fifth Annual ‘Robtober’ Residency

Robert Glasper’s “Robtober” returns to Blue Note Jazz Club’s Manhattan venue for the fifth year in a row. The residency kicks off on Oct. 4 with two performances per night, the first at 8 p.m. and the second at 10:30 p.m.

Glasper will perform eight distinct episodes throughout his month-long residency, which wraps up on Nov. 5. The first episode takes place on Oct. 4 and 5 with The Original Trio Tribute To Piano Giants.

Throughout this year’s residency, Glasper will be joined by a variety of special guests, including Yebba, Norah Jones, Kamasi Washington, Terrace Martin, Amber Navran of Moonchild, D Smoke, yasiin bey featuring Chris Dave, Derrick Hodge and DJ Jahi Sundance.

“”We’ve seen Robert grow from performing on our stage as a sideman to becoming a band leader, musical director, producer, curator and Grammy award winner in the Jazz, Urban Contemporary and R&B categories,” Blue Note Entertainment Group president Steven Bensusan said in a statement. “His musical diversity and range is extraordinary. This month-long residency allows us to support his creativity, allow him to revisit old projects as well as to experiment with new collaborations.”

Glasper’s success in his Blue Note residency led to the launch of the Blue Note Jazz Festival taking place in Napa, California. Earlier in August, Blue Note Jazz Festival returned for its second year, its lineup including Mary J. Blige, Nas, Chance the Rapper, Dave Chappelle, Talib Kweli & Madlib and more.

“The festival in Napa is a perfect example of how much the reidency has grown, and what the residency has built,” Glasper said in a statement. “This has been an amazing run! Can’t wait to see what year five has in store!”

Ahead of the inaugural Blue Note Jazz Festival, Glasper sat down with Pollstar and appeared on the cover discussing both his residency and festival.
