SST Records Announce Sept. 3 Memorial Show For Legendary Producer SPOT
SoCal punk legends will be back on stage in the South Bay for a Labor Day weekend concert celebrating the life of legendary SST Records producer SPOT (aka Glen Lockett).
SPOT, who died in March 2023, recorded, mixed or produced much of SST’s unrivaled late-70s and early 80s output, a veritable cavalcade of hardcore and punk keystone recordings from Black Flag, Minutemen, Husker Du, Saint Vitus, Meat Puppets and Descendents.
On Sept. 3 at Hermosa Beach, Californai’s Saint Rocke, members of many of those bands (and many others) will come together to celebrate SPOT’s legacy and raise money for his charity, which helped fund music education programs in schools in the South Bay.
The line-up for “Under-Dog Town” includes Lockjaw (which features George Hurley of Minutemen and Firehose) and sister band The Wrinkling Brothers, Saccharine Trust, The Last and Dondo (featuring Dez Cadena of Black Flag). The headline performance will be the first ever live show by Happy Universe, which features Elmo and Chris Kirkwood and Derrick Bostrom of the Meat Puppets. More SST acts may be added before the show.
Doors for the 21+ event are at 5 with the show starting at 5:30. Tickets are available here.
