A jazz icon, a guitar legend and a Pulitzer Prize winner are among the artists who are a part of the eclectic lineup for the 2024 edition of Knoxville, Tennessee’s Big Ears Festival.

Herbie Hancock, John Paul Jones and Rhiannon Giddens — the aforementioned trio — will be joined by, among others, performance artist Laurie Anderson; Fred Frith; post-hardcore legends Unwound; Adrianne Lenker; bluegrass great Molly Tuttle; hip-hop legends Digable Planets; Samora Pinderhughes; Mali’s Fatoumata Diawara; and Mexico’s Son Rompe Pera.

The festival is scheduled for more than a dozen venues across the Scruffy City March 21-24. Tickets are on sale September 14, at 9 a,m. Eastern at bigearsfestival.org/passes.

As usual, Big Ears will include special programming and thematic celebrations throughout the weekend. Giddens’ residence, for example, will include a celebration of fellow Pulitzer winner Henry Threadgill.

She’ll also be part of the bill celebrating the 60th anniversary of the influential Nonseuch Records, which will also include performances by Brad Mehldau, Caroline Shaw, Darcy James Argue, Mary Halvorson, Davóne Tines, Sam Amidon, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Yasmin Williams; Laurie Anderson and Molly Tuttle; and a rare live performance by Robin Holcomb.
