AEG Europe is seeking planning approval for a 8,500-capacity arena in the Scottish capital of Edinburgh.

Developer Parabola has already agreed to sell the site, located in Edinburgh Park, to AEG, according to a press release. The site offers “unrivaled public transport and motorway access, including two tram stops within an easy walk, two mainline stations, plentiful bus connections and excellent motorway links.”

If planning approval is granted, it would mark a “much-needed” addition to Edinburgh, attracting “world-class live music and entertainment,” and “further cementing [the city’s] reputation as a destination for culture and global tourism.”

As part of the planning process, public consultation exhibitions will be held at Edinburgh Park.

A planning application for the arena will be submitted to Edinburgh council in the coming weeks. AEG Europe anticipates “that the matter will then be determined within six months, with work expected to begin in early 2025 and the first live events taking to the stage in 2027.”

The arena in Edinburgh Park would give AEG Europe a presence in the Scottish capital, after already establishing one of the world’s most famous arenas in the English capital, London’s O2.
