The Roots Team Up With Live Nation Urban To Bring Roots Picnic Experience To L.A.

Grammy Award-winning band The Roots is building on its renowned Roots Picnic festival and partnering with Live Nation Urban to bring “Roots Picnic: Hip-Hop is the Love of My Life” to the historic Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on June 29.

The inaugural show boasts a stellar lineup that includes The Roots as headliner, hip-hop icon Queen Latifah, Common, Digable Planets, Arrested Development, The Pharcyde, Black Sheep and more to be announced.

The special event marks the first time The Roots bring their festival to the West Coast. Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson and Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter, the band’s co-founders, selected the Hollywood Bowl because it is one of their favorite venues. The Hollywood Bowl was No. 2 on Pollstar’s 2023 Year End Worldwide Top 100 Amphitheater Grosses with $32.38 million.

“The first time we played Hollywood Bowl was way back in 2011, and there was nothing like it,” Questlove said in a statement. “We came back to headline in 2019, and we’ve been talking about doing something there since. This idea for ‘Hip-Hop is the Love of My Life’ came up, and we knew there was no better spot.”

Tickets for the blockbuster event go on sale Thursday, Dec. 14, at 10 a.m. PT and can be purchased at hollywoodbowl.com.
