Lollapalooza Partners With Environmental Organization Re:wild
Lollapalooza has partnered with Re:wild as a continuation of the festival’s commitment to sustainability. An announcement from promoter C3 explains that Lolla festivals across the globe will support the organization and its partners by “sharing environmental education through festival messaging channels, providing space on festival grounds for Re:wild partners to speak directly with music fans, and through direct financial support of Re:wild projects.”
Re:wild was founded by a group of renowned conservation scientists along with actor/activist Leonardo DiCaprio with a focus on “the wild as the most effective solution to the interconnected climate, biodiversity and human wellbeing crises.” The organization works to bring “together Indigenous peoples, local communities, influential leaders, nongovernmental organizations, governments, companies and the public to protect and rewild at the scale and speed we need.”
The Lollapalooza and Re:wild partnership will launch this weekend at Lollapalooza India, scheduled Jan. 27-28 in Mumbai. The lineup features Imagine Dragons, The Strokes, AP Dhillon, Greta Van Fleet, Diplo, ZHU and more.
“In a moment when we need the world to come together to protect and restore nature as the most effective solution to the related climate and biodiversity crises, there are fewer greater convening forces than music,” Wes Sechrest, Re:wild chief scientist and CEO said in a statement. “We are excited for this partnership with Lollapalooza to bring visibility and support to the vital and urgent work of the communities and local organizations on the front lines working to ensure that nature thrives for the benefit of all.”
Along with its home at Chicago’s Grant Park, Lollapalooza has expanded to a total of eight editions on four continents with events in the United States, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Germany, France, Sweden, and India.
Lollapalooza’s sustainability efforts over the past 30 years include “Rock & Recycle, purchasing carbon offsets, free refillable water stations that have diverted millions of plastic water bottles, composting, recycling and food waste distribution, materials recovery programs, reusable cup programs and more.” Lollapalooza Chicago is the recipient of the Illinois Sustainability Award, and in 2023, Lollapalooza Berlin was the first festival in Germany to be awarded sustainability accreditation according to international standards (DIN ISO 20121 certification).
“Solutionists, join us! We are thrilled to partner with our new friends at Re:wild, as we too love the land, the water, and all living creatures,” Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell and Etty Lau Farrell said in a joint statement. “Their commitment to healing the world is directly in line with the environmental awareness roots that were planted in the infancy of Lollapalooza decades ago. And of course, we still respond to the call of the wild!”
