Chart Scene: Olivia Rodrigo Enters Top 10 Of Artist Power Index With New Tour
With the launch of her “Guts” tour, Olivia Rodrigo joins the lineup on the Artist Power Index after last appearing in the Feb. 5 issue on the strength of just Streaming, Airplay and Social scores. The addition of a Live rank, based on the tour’s first four dates during the final week of February, moves her into the top 10.
The three-time Grammy Award winner kicked off the tour Feb. 23 at Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert, California, in support of her second studio album, released last September. It is only her second trek as a concert headliner and the first booked exclusively at indoor arenas.
The tour’s initial North American leg will continue through early April, culminating with a four-night stint at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. Then, after a host of European dates in May and June, a final run through North America is planned for July and August, wrapping with a four-show engagement in Southern California at the Kia Forum in Inglewood.
Rodrigo’s first tour in 2022 supported her debut album Sour and played theaters in North America and Europe during a 13-week span. With an average gross of $247,450 earned per show, the tour saw about 4,800 tickets sold per concert, according to box-office totals reported during the tour. Radio City Music Hall in New York produced her top results with a $704,545 haul from 11,885 sold seats across two shows on April 26-27, 2022.
Along with Rodrigo, six other performers make a return to the Artist Power Index after having charted at least once in the past quarter of a year. Jason Derulo, who most recently appeared in the Dec. 12 issue, ranks highest among them, fueled by concerts he performed in February to kick off his “Nu King” world tour through Europe. His first four performances, booked at concert venues in Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen and Paris each landed in the APX eligibility period, earning the R&B artist the 19th ranking.
On LIVE75, Bad Bunny has “Hot Shot” status as the touring artist with the highest debut on the chart. He takes the No. 4 ranking based on a multiple-show ticket average of 15,657 from the first three concerts on his “Most Wanted Tour.” The opening night performance at Salt Lake City’s Delta Center on Feb. 21 drew a crowd of 14,223 with a gross totaling $3.8 million. The second stop on the trek was Las Vegas where he played two shows, Feb. 23-24, at T-Mobile Arena. With a total attendance of 32,749, revenue from ticket sales on both nights in Sin City topped $8.3 million.
“Noise Maker” Fortune Feimster has the best upward movement on LIVE75 compared to the previous week, jumping 10 positions on the chart to land at No. 38. The comedian’s “Live Laugh Love!” performances at De Meervaart in Amsterdam on Jan. 29, Denver’s Paramount Theatre on Feb. 9 and Chicago Theatre on Feb. 24 produced a sold-ticket count of 7,721 to average 2,573 tickets per show. On the previous week’s chart, her average was 1,681 from six shows including three at U.S. venues with capacities 45% smaller than the Denver and Chicago buildings.
