Afro Nation Detroit Announces Initial 2024 Lineup With Rema Headlining

The biggest celebration of global Black music is back in the U.S. this year and will feature a star-studded lineup that highlights music from Africa and its diaspora. Afro Nation Detroit 2024 returns to Bedrock’s Douglass Site Aug. 17-18 and will have Nigerian rapper and singer Rema as headliner.

Other artists on the bill performing on the main stage include PartyNextDoor, Adekunle Gold, Ayra Starr, Kash Doll, King Promise and rising stars Amaarae and Ruger. The piano stage will feature Scorpion Kings, Uncle Waffles, Musa Keys, DBN GoGo, Kelvin Momo, TXC, Kamo Mphela, 2woBunnies and DJ Moma. The official art for the festival announced the lineup as the “first wave of artists” and that more will be announced.

Tickets for the second annual Afro Nation Detroit, presented by Bedrock and The Malachite Group, go on sale March 27 at 9 a.m. EST and can be purchased on the event website, detroit.afronation.com.

The event highlighting genres such as Afrobeats, amapiano and hip-hop builds on the success of last year’s inaugural Afro Nation Detroit which featured Burna Boy and Davido as headliners and drew tens of thousands of attendees each day. Afro Nation also hosted panels for industry professionals and artists leading up to the festival.

It was no accident that organizers elected Detroit as one of the U.S. sites for Afro Nation. Bedford Douglass was the first federally funded housing project for African Americans in the U.S. and housed artists such as Diana Ross, Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard of the Supremes.

“Bringing Afro Nation back to Detroit, the home of Motown and Techno music was an easy decision,” Smade, co-founder of Afro Nation, said in a statement. “Detroit embodies culture, creativity and pride. The energy here is electric, echoing the heartbeat of Afro Nation’s spirit. In Detroit, we found a community that welcomed us with open arms, sharing our passion for unity and celebration, giving us a home away from home. Afro Nation Detroit 2024 will be even bigger than last year, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you.”
