Bruno Mars To Perform Two Nights For Intuit Dome’s Grand Opening
Intuit Dome had to go big for its grand opening, and it managed to do so by booking one of the most successful artists of the 21st century. The venue announced Bruno Mars will return to Southern California to perform the first set of concerts at the new home of the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers on Aug. 15 and 16.
“I moved to Inglewood, California, when I was 18 years old in hopes one day I could write a song, a song that would allow me to perform all over the world,” Mars said in a video promoting the big announcement. “Opening up this arena is a full circle moment, and I can’t wait to celebrate, celebrate in the city that’s become my second home: Los Angeles.”
The Honolulu native hasn’t played a show in L.A. since performing four nights at Staples Center (now called Crypto.com Arena) in October 2018. It’s only fitting that his grand return to the area he considers his second home is to open what will surely be one of the grandest arenas in the world.
“We are thrilled Bruno Mars will open Intuit Dome,” Gillian Zucker, CEO of Halo Sports and Entertainment, said in a statement. Halo Sports and Entertainment is a holding company that includes the Clippers, Intuit Dome, Kia Forum and Ontario Clippers of the NBA G League. “Bruno, who has a strong connection to Inglewood, will undoubtedly deliver an iconic performance that is worthy of this moment, and will leave a lasting impression on everyone who attends these two shows.”
Tickets for both Live Nation-promoted shows go on sale Thursday, April 11, at 10 a.m. local time and can be purchased via Ticketmaster.com.
Mars, managed by Gorilla Management and repped worldwide by WME’s John Marx, ranked No. 20 on Pollstar’s Top Touring Artists of the Decade in 2019 by grossing $545,585,346. The 14-time Grammy Award winner, who has had a successful Las Vegas residency at Park MGM since 2016, will be the first of several major artists to be part of the Intuit Dome’s programming for 2024. Comedian Sebastian Maniscalco will follow Mars with a performance on Aug. 17, and Phil Wickham and Brandon Lake will bring their Summer Worship Night to the arena on Aug. 22. Usher’s highly-anticipated “Past Present Future Tour” includes four nights (Sept. 21, 22, 24 and 25) at Intuit Dome, Weezer will visit the arena to play their beloved self-titled debut in its entirety on Oct. 11 and Billy Joel will stop by for a special one-night-only performance on Oct. 12.
Clippers owner Steve Ballmer, who was a keynote speaker at Pollstar Live! in February, set out to make the pinnacle of live entertainment with a $2 billion venue that will set a new standard for venues with world-class amenities, stellar sightlines, state-of-the-art sound, premium seating and much more.
“I want this to be the penultimate basketball experience on the planet, as good as it gets, the pinnacle and the peak,” Ballmer, the former CEO of Microsoft, said on Jan. 16. “Now of course, some year somebody will bypass us, but man, we put everything into getting ahead of that into this building.”
