Slipknot Announces U.S. Dates For 25th Anniversary ‘Here Comes The Pain Tour’
Metal mainstays Slipknot have announced the North American dates of its “Here Comes The Pain Tour,” celebrating the 25th anniversary of the band’s debut album from 1999.
Produced by Live Nation, the tour includes arena plays across North America, including Madison Square Garden, the new Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, Moody Center in Austin and more. Support comes from Kentucky hardcore upstarts Knocked Loose, with Orbit Culture and Vended as support on select dates.
Dates run from August to September, including previously announced festival dates before, during and after, followed by a European leg taking place in December. A knotfest.com artist presale begins today, with general onsale Friday, May 3.
Also part of the routing are two Knotfest events, one in Brazil on Oct. 19, and the other Sept. 21 in the band’s home state of Iowa. Yesterday the lineup for Knotfest Iowa was announced, which features Till Lindemann from Rammstein, Knocked Loose, Hatebreed, Poison The Well, GWAR and others. The event, taking place at Waterworks Park in Des Moines, will include a revamped Knotfest Museum celebrating the 25-year milestone. A ticket presale began today with general onsale also May 3.
Slipknot is represented by CAA.
Building hype for the tour and 25th anniversary was a popup show at hippie desert enclave Pappy & Harriet’s in Southern California followed by a high-profile set at Sick New World festival in Las Vegas. The gigs featured a new drummer, which has sense turned out to be Eloy Casagrande of Sepultura — as tagged in an Instagram post as a somewhat official announcement confirming what many fans had been speculating for months.
“We’ve made some changes in the band, which were very public,” said Cory Brennan, head of 5B Artists + Media, in a recent Pollstar interview. The artist manager, who signed Slipknot as a mostly unknown entity, says the band’s connection with fans remains as strong as ever.
“To see the fan reaction go from being upset about the drummer being gone to now being excited about who is the new drummer, it really speaks to Slipknot being more than a band and really being a culture,” said Brennan. “It’s pushing a new lifeblood into the band now. Whether it’s them writing music, playing albums from start to finish to celebrate their 25 years, whether it’s playing small unannounced shows where the band just shows up, it feels like that time is now, this year and next year. It’s exciting.”
