A total of 60,000 fans gathered on the Theresienwiese in Munich, Germany – grounds of the world-famous Oktoberfest – for the official Fan Fest Euro 2024, headlined by Ed Sheeran, June 12.

The bill also featured Nelly Furtado, English singer/songwriter and musician Dylan, as well as German starts Tim Bendzko and Mark Forster, who both recorded official Euro 2024 songs, which they performed on stage.

Fan Fest Euro 2024 marked a premiere in the history of the city of Munich, which had never before made Theresienwiese available for a music event of this size.

Pollstar had reached out to the promoters, FKP Scorpio and local event producers Pro Events, to find out whether the city of Munich had ever permitted concerts to be staged on Theresienwiese. Their joint response said, “Fan Fest Euro 2024 is indeed a historic concert event in the heart of the city that is unique in Munich’s history. As the home of the Oktoberfest, and a few other formats, the Theresienwiese is not normally available for large concerts. As the opening event for Euro 2024, the event was first made eligible for approval by a city council resolution subject to strict requirements.” These included observing the official noise and environmental protections in place, the overall impact on local residents as well as a traffic and safety concept.

Pro Events was the ideal local partner for FKP Scorpio, seeing that it has realized various events on Munich’s public grounds, including Klassik am Odeonsplatz, the only event of its kind on this historic Munich location, organized by the city of Munich, and public broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk; as well as the stage at a similarly historic site, the Königsplatz, for the IAA Mobility trade fair.

FKP Scorpio thanked the city of Munich for its trust in the execution of Fan Fest Euro 2024 in a statement.

FKP and Pro Events might have set a precedent, as Clemens Baumgärtner, head of the city’s department of labor and economic affairs, commented, “a sensation on the Theresienwiese! The first big concert has been a complete success. Tens of thousands of happy visitors transformed the Theresienwiese into a sea of lights. Many thanks to the courageous organizers, and thanks to the neighborhood. It must happen again soon!”

German telco giant Deutsche Telekom was the main sponsor of the Fan Fest Euro 2024. Fans, who couldn’t get a ticket for the event were able to watch it on Telekom’s live stream channels.

Munich, Germany, is being treated to some mega events this year. First, this historic concert event headlined by Ed Sheeran on Theresienwiese; a total of six Euro matches are being played at Allianz Arena, including the opener between Germany and Scotland on Friday, June 14; and two weeks after the final in Berlin, Adele will perform a 10-night residency at Messe München, the city’s fair grounds – her only European shows in 2024.
