Foo Fighters Forced Off Stage By Storms
The Foo Fighters’ July 17 concert in New York was cut short by dangerous storms that rolled through the city.
Performing at Citi Field, the home of the New York Mets, the Foos were mid-set when lightning slashed through the sky.
Alright, here’s what we’re gonna do. We’re gonna do one more,” lead singer Dave Grohl said on video posted by Fox. “That’s it. We’re gonna do one more, wait this f—ing s— out. If we can come back, you f—ing know we will, right?”
As the band began to play “Everlong,” a visibly frustrated Grohl ultimately had to resign himself to the fact it was unsafe to continue. He urged fans to get back from the stage and get undercover.
By 10:30 PM, stadium officials were forced to cancel the show.
In a post on social media, the Foos apologized for the abrupt shortening of the show.
“We are so disappointed that we were unable to play our full set for tonight’s fantastic crowd at Citi Field, but the safety our fans, the crew and everyone working in the stadium comes first, so when it was determined there was no safe way to continue the show in the dangerous weather, we had no choice but to call it a night,” the band wrote. “We’re grateful for every second we were able to play for you and looking forward to seeing you again — maybe as soon as Friday.”
The band is set for another show at Citi Field Friday.
Recent Pollstar Boxoffice highlights for the Foo Fighters include an 18,839-ticket sellout at Charlotte’s PNC Music Pavilion May 9, grossing more than $2 million.
The band is repped in the U.S. by WME’s Don Muller and managed by John Silva.
