The iconic Hollywood Bowl was among thousands of customers who lost power in Los Angeles Sunday afternoon as a persistent heat wave taxed the grid.

Vance Joy, Grouplove and Tiny Habits were on the bill as part of the KCRW festival at the 102-year-old amphitheater nestled in the hills above Hollywood. At 6:22 p.m., a mere 38 minutes before showtime, the Bowl announced via social media that the concert was off.

“If a new date for this performance can be confirmed, details will follow and tickets for the original date will be valid for the new performance date,” the venue posted on X.

Blackouts were a consistent issue Sunday, the fourth day of a heat wave in Southern California with temperatures across the Los Angeles area hitting triple digits. The heat is forecasted to abate Tuesday. The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power reported that during the heat wave nearly 80,000 customers lost power. SoCal Edison, which provides power to parts of five counties in Southern California, faced similar issues.

By Monday morning, LADWP was advising customers that while there are numerous outages, most are affecting few customers so response times could range from 12 to 24 hours. The forecast high in LA for Monday is 103 degrees.
