Counting Crows frontman Adam Duritz and co-producer Barbara Rappaport Garrett have announced the return of the free, indie-tastic Underwater Sunshine Festival. The sixth edition of the fest – its first edition since 2022 — takes place Oct. 18-19 at New York City’s Bowery Electric.

Curated by Duritz and his team of producers, the 2024 lineup includes Pat McGee, Red Wanting Blue, Love Jones, Mary Shelley, Kids That Fly, Newski, Loose Buttons, among others. Doors open at 5 p.m. ET on Oct. 18 and 5:30 p.m. ET on Oct. 19.

Tickets are free to fans aged 21 and over and are available here (for Friday, Oct. 18) and here (for Saturday, Oct. 19). Looking for more free stuff? Monday’s announcement notes there “will be free band merchandise and festival T-shirts available for early birds.”

This year’s festival is sponsored by Musician Treatment Foundation, Whiskey Thief Distillery and SBG Media.

Underwater Sunshine was first launched in 2018 as “an immersive celebration of independent music, aiming to create an oasis for music lovers honoring both artists and fans alike.”  The event takes its name from Counting Crows’ 2012 album, Underwater Sunshine (Or What We Did on Our Summer Vacation), which was “envisioned, created, and produced as an homage to all the great music that goes unheard.”

Counting Crows is booked by CAA’s Jared Martin (worldwide excluding Europe) and International Talent Booking’s Rod MacSween. The band is managed by Red Light Management Mark DiDia. The most recent report submitted to Pollstar Boxoffice for Counting Crows was an Aug. 31 show at Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa, California, that sold 6,992 tickets and grossed $479,115.
