Matthew Sweet Cancels Tour After Suffering Stroke
After suffering a stroke in Toronto on the evening of Oct. 12, alt-rock singer Matthew Sweet has canceled his cross-country tour. He was admitted to Toronto Western Hospital to receive care, and he’s now been transferred to a rehabilitation center bnear his home in Omaha, Nebraska, where he will undergo extensive therapy.
“All of us who know and love Matthew have hope for a speedy recovery,” Sweet’s manager, Russell Carter, said in a statement. “Matthew has always been intensely focused and tenacious in all of his endeavors, not only in his recording career, but in all of his artistic and intellectual pursuits. I am confident that his signature determination will serve him well ashe focuses now on recovery to good health.”
Sweet is booked by High Road Touring in North America and Primary Talent International in Europe, and he’s managed by Russell Carter Artist Management. Among 117 headline reports submitted to Pollstar’s Boxoffice, he’s sold a total of 56,021 tickets grossing $1.2 million.
With Sweet unable to tour, his management has set up a GoFundMe to help pay off his medical expenses in Canada and Omaha.
