Shawn Mendes Lands On Artist Power Index With US Concert Run
Shawn Mendes enters the lineup on the Artist Power Index based on concerts performed prior to the release of his next studio album, Shawn, set to arrive Nov. 15 through Island Records. Following a handful of August dates and a September performance at “Rock in Rio” in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the pop artist kicked off a string of shows in U.S. cities on Oct. 14 in support of the new project. Dubbed the “For Friends & Family Only Tour,” the trek’s first fall show was held at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, followed by concerts at the Brooklyn Paramount in New York City, The Ford in Los Angeles, Seattle’s Paramount Theatre and Red Rocks Amphitheatre in the Denver market.
The brief trek marks his first headlining concert tour since canceling 2022’s “Wonder: The World Tour” due to mental health issues. It was his fifth concert tour and was booked in North America and Europe with plans to run through Aug. 1, 2023. Box-office totals were reported from four of the seven arena dates that occurred before cancellation showing that he averaged 11,753 sold tickets per show with an average gross of $985,000.
Looking ahead, Mendes has more dates booked for the remainder of this year and 2025, beginning with November concerts in Berlin and Toronto. He will also play a set at Mexico City’s “Corona Capital Festival” on Nov. 16. Then, more festival appearances are scheduled for next March. He will appear at “Lollapalooza” festivals in India, Argentina, Chile and Brazil as well as the “Festival Estereo Picnic” in Colombia.
The Artist Power Index also features debut chart appearances by three more performers including Stevie Wonder who scores the No. 46 ranking based on his arena concerts during the fall leading up to the U.S. presidential election. Titled “Sing Your Song! As We Fix Our Nation’s Broken Heart,” the tour was booked from Oct. 8 through Nov. 2 with shows planned in 11 cities.
Following the R&B legend at No. 47 is Atlanta rapper Latto who lands on APX following the launch of her “Sugar Honey Iced Tea Tour” set in North American venues with shows booked through early December. The tour supports her third studio album which was released earlier this year on Aug. 9. Then, 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Foreigner also joins the chart lineup at No. 49 based on recent concerts on the band’s ongoing farewell tour that has been extended into 2025.
While Taylor Swift remains at No. 1 on the Artist Power Index for a second week since resuming her “Eras Tour” for its final leg through U.S. and Canadian cities, LIVE75 features a new No. 1 touring artist in this issue. Jumping from No. 26 to the top position is Mexican Latin pop singer Luis Miguel who also ranked No. 1 five previous times earlier in 2024.
His current chart-topping appearance is based on five concerts from Oct. 8 through 15 at Mexico City’s Arena CDMX, part of his recent multiple-show engagement at the venue. Together, the shows moved a total of 78,978 sold tickets for a per-show average of 15,795. Combined grosses from the five concerts totaled $13.7 million, an average of $2.73 million per night which is enough to earn “Heavy Hitter” status on the chart as the largest gross average of any of the 75 ranked tours.
Miguel’s world tour that kicked off on Aug. 3, 2023, has grossed over $350 million from more than 2.3 million sold tickets, according to sales figures from 157 reported concerts. Now in its homestretch, the tour is booked at 11 venues in Mexican cities during November and will wrap with a two-show engagement, Nov. 30-Dec. 1, at Mexico City’s Estadio GNP Seguros, formerly known as Foro Sol.
LIVE75’s top-ranked debut belongs to English DJ Jamie xx who takes the 11th ranking based on a three-show ticket average of 8,543 from two venues. He sold 19,168 tickets for two performances at London’s Alexandra Palace, Sep. 25-26, while an Oct. 2 concert at Pepsi Center WTC in Mexico City drew a sellout crowd of 6,462. The tour supports his latest album In Waves, released on Sep. 20.
Two more touring artists debut in the top 20 on LIVE75 including Sturgill Simpson with a 5,782-ticket average at three shows. He performed outdoors at The Salt Shed in Chicago, Oct. 1-2, selling 10,502 tickets. And his performance on Oct. 11 at Huntsville, Alabama’s Orion Amphitheater was attended by 6,844 fans. Then, Mt. Joy also debuts based on outdoor concerts at The Salt Shed. The Chicago venue hosted the band for three shows, Oct. 3-5, selling 16,392 tickets during the run.
