More Than 100,000 Fans Per Night To Witness Coldplay’s ‘Biggest Ever Shows’
Coldplay have added two Indian dates to their 2025 itinerary, and they’ll be their biggest shows yet: following three sold-out concerts at D Y Patil Stadium Mumbai (Jan 18-21), they will also bring the “Music Of The Spheres World Tour” to Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium for two shows, Jan. 25-26.
“The band will play their biggest ever show at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India on 25 January, 2025,” Coldplay announced on their website before the Nov. 16 onsale, which led to the adding of the second, Jan. 26, concert.
Narendra Modi Stadium has an official capacity of 132,000, making it the largest cricket stadium in the world, home to Indian Premier League team Gujarat Titans. The venue holds a Guiness World Record for hosting 101,566 spectators for the IPL 2022 final between the Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans.
Coldplay’s agent Josh Javor, co-head of WME UK, confirmed that more than 100,000 people would attend the concerts each night.
As was to be expected, tickets for both concerts sold out within minutes, leaving many fans disappointed. However, technical issues that occurred during the band’s Mumbai onsale – like being logged out of BookMyShow the moment the onsale was supposed to begin – have not been reported.
BookMyShow, the exclusive primary ticket seller for the shows, has shared some fascinating stats on the onsale, one of which is that both shows sold out within two hours. The Coldplay shows drew fans from over 500 cities across 28 states and five union territories, counting only those successful in getting a ticket.
“This not only highlights Coldplay’s incredible appeal but also underscores the growing reach of live entertainment in India,” BookMyShow wrote in a press release.
From bustling metros such as Mumbai contributing to 21% of total tickets booked, Ahmedabad with 14%, Bengaluru at 13%, and Delhi-NCR at 11%, to non-metro cities like Surat at 3%, Vadodara, and Jaipur at 2% each, according to BookMyShow’s stats.
But fans also hail from some of “the farthest corners of India, including Jammu and Kashmir, along with towns like Panipat, Guntur, Warangal, Bareilly, Mathura, Bikaner, Bhatinda, Mysore, Udupi, Sagar, Satna, Alleppey and Yavatmal,” showcasing true fandom for Coldplay, according to BookMyShow.
Notably, fans from the so-called seven sisters of the North East – Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura – have booked the more expensive premium stands at great numbers. 18% of Nagaland’s sales, and 13% of Mizoram’s sales were premium stand tickets.
Evidence, according to BookMyShow, of “the growing reach of live entertainment experience as a chosen form of leisure that India is willing to spend on, now extending far beyond India’s metropolitan hubs.”
The fact that fans will travel to Ahmedabad from all over India indicates the enormous (local) economic impact beyond the stadium gates.
BookMyShow Live, the live entertainment experiential division of BookMyShow, is the driving force behind Coldplay’s “Music Of The Spheres World Tour” in India.
Bringing this global concert phenomenon to Gujarat was “breaking geographical boundaries, taking live international entertainment beyond metropolitan cities and democratising access for audiences across India,” the press release continues.
The BookMyShow statement concludes, “Coldplay’s Music Of The Spheres World Tour in India is more than a testament to the band’s legendary status; it is a reflection of how live entertainment is shaping India’s cultural and economic fabric. As fans gather in Ahmedabad, this event will ignite a celebration that bridges regions, languages and cultures, proving once again that music knows no borders. On January 25 and 26, Ahmedabad will be the epicentre of joy, connection and music, as Coldplay delivers their most iconic performances yet, creating a legacy that will resonate far beyond the stadium walls.”
Coldplay is booked by WME worldwide, excluding North America and is managed by Phil Harvey, Mandi Frost and Arlene Moon. The band kicked off their “Music Of The Spheres World Tour” on March 18, 2022, at Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica, with the trek scheduled to end at London’s Wembley Stadium on Sept. 8, 2025. Among 61 headline reports submitted to Pollstar’s Boxoffice throughout the tour, the band has sold 9.6 million tickets, surpassing $1 billion dollars in ticket sales. Coldplay follows Taylor Swift as the only two artists to break $1 billion in a single tour, becoming the first band to surpass that benchmark.
