AEG Presents & MCT Agentur Announce Strategic Partnership

AEG Presents has taken an undisclosed stake in German promoter and agency MCT Agentur, the company of Scumeck Sabottka.

It’s a deal that extends the reach of both companies, creating “a strategic alignment in Germany and beyond,” according to a press release.

Scumeck Sabottka founded MCT in 1984 in Herne, in the German state of Northrhine Westphalia together with two friends. The independent concert and tour promoter moved to Berlin in 1999, gaining recognition across the country, as well as wider Europe.

Over three decades, the business has grown the careers of international, as well as some national acts by taking them through the circuit. Best known for being the European promoter and agency for Rammstein, MCT Agentur has also worked with Lou Reed, Robbie Williams, Radiohead, Pearl Jam, Tom Waits, New Order, Marilyn Manson, Kraftwerk, Florence + the Machine, LCD Soundsystem, GusGus, Massive Attack, Björk, Four Tet, Katy Perry, Jack Johnson, Die Antwoord, Charlotte Day Wilson, Yasmine Hamdan, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tamino, Sigur Ros, Janelle Monáe, Blur, Moby, and many more.

Jay Marciano, president and CEO of AEG Presents, and Scumeck Sabottka met years ago in Berlin and became friends. “We met for coffee on my annual trips to Los Angeles and at one of those meetings we talked about how we could work together,” Sabottka recalled, “I wanted a partner who would share my vision of running our business and provide additional support when needed. Concert promotion is still a gamble…that’s what makes it so exciting, but it’s a full contact sport at times. You need a teammate you can trust, and Jay and I trust each other.
